From 1st April, 2019, gabapentin and pregabalin will be reclassified as Schedule 3 controlled drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 and Class C of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
What this means is that:
- From 1st April, 2019, it will be illegal to issue these medicines through repeat dispensing.
- The Surgery will only prescribe these medicines one month at a time.
- Patients currently being issued these medicines may have to have their prescription altered to bring it in line with the new legal requirements.
